MTI is a global provider of IT, Datacentre and IT Security Solutions, who work with customers such as; Next, Sony, Bet 365, Beazley, and Virgin East Coast Trains. Over the last 25 years, MTI has helped thousands of organisations to transform their IT, enabling them to reduce operating costs, increase profitability, and mitigate risk.
Issues to be resolved
MTI are very strong in the storage arena. Their partnerships with companies such as DELL EMC allow MTI to provide robust, high-end, enterprise level storage services to their customers.
Due to a recent win with a Meteorological company, MTI were looking for a strategic partner to provide additional, value-added services to their customers network which spans 5 countries. Whilst MTI is extremely strong on storage their networking capability outside of the data centre required additional support.
MTI approached aap3 to provide their expertise within the Cisco Networking estate, to monitor and manage the network 24×7.
aap3’s Networking Lifecycle Management was the perfect solution for MTI’s needs which incorporated 5 methodical stages:
The first stage of the lifecycle management process was to fully understand their entire IT real estate to ensure we start the planning phase being fully informed.
We worked with MTI to agree and scope the desired outcomes which included:
- Implementation of Network Change and Configuration management
- Consultancy on existing network design and configuration
- Implement industry best practices
- Implement upgrades to remove security vulnerabilities
With the agreed scope of work outlined in the planning phase, we proceeded with creating detailed network designs and implementation processes. These included tight integration of aap3’s Remote Monitoring and Management services delivered from our Service Operations Centres.
Working closely with MTI’s operational teams we ensured all remedial work and IOS upgrades were installed with minimal impact on its daily operations. At the same time, we implemented our monitoring and management systems into their data centres to ensure we had backup and rollback capabilities.
MTI’s network is now updated, complies with network best practices and is fully monitored and managed by aap3’s Remote Monitoring and Management Service. It includes:
- Level 1, 2 Service Desk
- Remote Support 24×7
- Remote Monitoring and Management in-scope devices
- Network Configuration Back-ups
- Asset Management
- Governance & Compliance Reporting
The discoveries looked at speciﬁc Cisco technology such as:
- Managed and unmanaged switching
- Frewall and security appliances
- WiFi technology
MTI and their customer have seen an overhaul of the network, bringing with it the adoption of new designs and configurations, removed security vulnerabilities, improved configurations & uptime as well as improvements in the wireless networks, which allows their end customer to focus on their core business – meteorological data capture and analysis.
MTI have overhauled the back-end storage, increasing their back-end infrastructure whilst maintaining DR, Virtualisation, and security.
Continual Service Improvements are taking place in the form of regular QBR meetings to discuss service levels, issues, and service improvement plans. MTI’s end customer is growing and with this, the network is becoming more complex and expanding globally.
